Difficulty signing in to Xbox live from Minecraft?

So I made a Xbox live account just so I could play Minecraft online because apparently, I'm still 12. Anyway, I'm playing on my Galaxy S8 and whenever I hit the "sign in" button, it briefly opens a green Xbox screen, switches to a white screen with the Minecraft app logo in the top, changes to black for a few seconds, and finally returns to the Minecraft menu without signing me in. Is anyone else having this issue?

How would I find that out? I know nothing about how Xbox operates.

I don't really know where you can check if you got a child account (always had an adult account from the start).
Otherwise, try to make a new one and input your birthyear as <1998.
