I just picked up a silver ds today for my girlfriend and unlike my black one .... it came fully charged.

Is this normal? or was my black ds the odd one out?

just curious sorry for the randomness of the question.

Never seen a fully-charged DS out of the retail box..ever! Perhaps, Nintendo is changing their procedures. Would make it a lot less headache for new consumers and those who don't...read...manuals. May you two enjoy your fun together on the DS.

By default, Nintendo DS consoles that come right out of the factory aren't fully charged. Most electronics you get like Cell phones, etc also don't come fully charged. The reason for this? Most electronics use lithium ion batteries which degrade over time. After about 2-3 years, the batteries max charge is roughly vut in half and this process happens more quickly to fully charged batteries that aren't used for long periods of time. So to prevent electronics such as the DS from loosing their charge capacity while sitting on store shelves and warehouses, they charge batteries just above halfway which causes the minimal amount of damage. So if it was fully charged and sitting on a store shelf for a while, when you get it home, it would be around 90-95% of its original capacity while partly charging it, you would receieve it around 99-100%.

well, the other possibility is that they are fully charged at the factory, but as all batteries self discharge after a while, they are usually discharged by the time they get to you......

just a thought

or perhaps its just a refurb

it is probably half charged since it died out after a few hours of play.

the thing is, my own ds came completely uncharged... I couldn't even turn it on....

I bought it from futureshop so it should be brand new.

My DS Phat which I bought shortly after the European launch came fully charged. I tried to charge it first, but it didn't. When I played a while on it I was able to recharge it.

When I bought my Crimson/Black DS at Gamestop, it came fully charged. It was brand new. Two of my friends also bought one that day. Their's were charged as well.

I doubt they were returns, as we bought them the day that the new Brain Age Bundle came out.
