If this project ever gets a release,I think that it will be declared as Wii's homebrew greatest achievement!

hahahahaha time travel. WTF

It's obvious the app has some kind of header containing a lot of info, shown by tuieidj's loader.

Nice one.

Because that's when the games were made. Any reports of Devolution enabling time travel are completely unfounded.
Lol, not exactly what I meant. :P I just thought something custom will be used rather than the usual apploader since you changed mediums of storage, but okay. ;)

With build dates of 2002 and 2003 I would have thought it blatantly obvious that these are the apploaders from the original discs. Do you really think tueidj was working on this 4 years before the launch of the Wii?

Granted I don't quite see the point of real audio streaming support if you need an original disc anyway. Original discs don't have audio streaming problems.

In Nintendo's ideal world, the limitations imposed on their system would have never been removed, and users would not have the freedom to do anything that Nintendo did not want them to do; thankfully, other people idealized the freedom to do anything with the system, leaving the choice of whether to do "good" or "bad" with the users - as it should be. In my ideal world, Gamecube games would not go missing, get scratched, or get broken, and my Wii disc drive would not break.

I can only hope that if this program is ever released that it will be released without any artificial limitations, since its creation is possible in part due to people who removed the artificial limitations created by Nintendo, allowing users to use their system in any way possible. Hopefully the suggestions of digital rights management will not come to light, as there is no logical reason to impose such limitations - some Gamecube games are costly and/or hard to find, and are now only sold now by third parties - so surely the reason behind such a design decision would be idealistic... "Gamecube piracy is an incredibly impactful problem for the games industry - depriving the hardworking game designers, programmers, and sales people of just reward - and people who pirate games lack morals, so I'm going to inconvenience people who may have legitimate reasons for a system free of digital rights management, and carpet bomb the entire ocean to take out the pirates."

Did I miss something? Where did it say you needed an original disc?

From what 've heard this app will let you play GC backups from USB/SD as long as you own the original disk.

I don't that's the point. When I noticed that I simply thought that the loader might be fake and wanted confirmation that the app uses the original loaders.

Yes, but that does not (necessarily) mean you will need the original disc inserted to play. [That'd largely defeat the point of loading from SD/USB - also a few of the reasons tueidj began working on this were for people with broken drives and with the new wiis that don't play GC games; requiring the original disc inserted would alienate those users]. tueidj has not finalised the details regarding how it will prevent piracy, and that doesn't need to be discussed at this point, because not even he knows how it will be implemented, so any discussion would be hypothetical and therefore pointless.

Why would tueidj fake this? He is a reputable dev, he's not going to tarnish his reputation like that.

We don't have to argue about one thing: No original discs, no Devolution. That's a fact.
Devolution will probably need you to insert an original disc one time for backing and some sort of signing it up. Then you can play games from USB/SD. Playing games with real audio streaming other than with the original disc has a for some breaking disadvantage: No streaming audio. Unfortunately there are a few very great games among those audio streaming games, so people tend to buy them anyway, including me. So, for them audio streaming support is not a big deal, aka they couldn't care less. Devolution offers them only the convenience of no need to insert their original audio streaming games every time they want to play them. But really, it's no big deal to insert original discs for audio streaming games. I usually always have Eternal Darkness inserted and if I want to play it, I just click the disc channel. And if I want to play another game, I just use DML/Swiss. And if I want to play Star Fox Adventures, hell then I put the disc in the disc slot, no big deal.

It would be a whole different matter if Devolution wouldn't need original discs at all because then a lot more people can use this feature, even if it means to pleasure pirates.

Although I do agree with many of your points but I need to say these points.
No one besides tueidj knows what will be implemented so there is not point of speculating.
Just because games are not sold anymore does not make it alright to pirate those games.
If you have a means of using an original disc then you have no reason to worry.
Even if your disc drive is broken and whatever else your problem is, you would still be without the option if this software wasn't created.

In the end, it is your choice to use it or not. There is no given right that a developer has to create something to accommodate you or anyone else. No one forces anyone to use anything. Anyone could easily spend their money and just buy a used gamecube console if they truly want the experience. It is not like devolution is your only hope to play the games that you love.

omg this is not a piracy discussion! this needs to stay open for the software discussion. jesus this place gets out of hand quickly anymore.

the main question is how is he able to do this, lets discuss the method and maybe it can produce some positive

LOL, Xflak and Deadlyfoez were right on the first page. They feared this would become an anti-pirate debate and it did like the previous thread. Interesting thought :P

Why do people keep saying that there is no point in discussing something that is not released/decided/whatever yet because it is speculation? This is a f'n speculation thread.
