ANYWAY, as someone that does not own a Wii U nor has even touched a Wii U, I was wondering if the Wii U's 720p/1080p upscaling still applies to GameCube games in Devolution that didn't support progressive scan, such as TimeSplitters 2.

The Wii U actually upscales the games to 720p / 1080i / 1080p, whatever is set in your system settings.
Interestingly enough, the Wii U seems to improve graphics on Gamecube games better than Wii games, I don't know why though.

I know that, but I didn't know how well if at all it handled 240p. Also crediar's comment regarding Nintendon't semi-recently implementing/enabling upscaling made me think that the Wii U may run homebrew in 480p for whatever the reason.

O_o You sure about that? You sure it's not a case of widescreen vs fullscreen? Fullscreen technically has more dpi...

But not internally, the games assets are still 480p, yet, they are scaled to match the TV's output. Too bad it's not the same way something like Dolphin renders the games.

I can confirm that Mega Man X collection works fine on my WiiU, and I believe that the games were rendered out as 240p.

Interesting. Huh. What brand of TV do you have? Are you using component or composite/RCA cables? Perhaps the issue I have is combination of Dios Mios having issues with scaling 240p as well as my TV being too low-end to handle it.

That's not upscaling, that's rendering at a higher resolution, aka "up-resing".

I wish it did it the way Dolphin does, but using Wii games on the Wii U, not a big fan. I think Wii games look more jagged on 720/1080 resolutions on my TV, but to each their own :P Weird that Mega Man X collection works on Devolution, maybe it's a combination of a Dios Mios issue and/or my TV not liking 240p resolutions. Kinda strange that I'd have to use composite just to load one game.

The Wii U's upscaler is probably sharper than your TV's. Your TV most likely blurs the jaggies away.

Yeah, I'll play Wii games on my regular Wii or Dolphin :P Any word on Mega Man X Collection's mystery, like why it suddenly works on Devolution? I'm still trying to find out what TV Drunk_caterpillar uses. Maybe someday I can afford to get a non-Vizio model ROFL (stupid college expenses).

To be honest, I never tried the newer versions of Dios Mios, so I could try that first, then Devolution, but yeah, pretty sure I'd have to use RCA cables *shudder*.

Why is it a mystery? A Wii U will not send a raw 240p signal over HDMI, and Dios Mios cannot run on a Wii U.

I meant how is it running on Devolution using vWii mode, that's what I'm trying to find out. On a normal Wii, Dios Mios doesn't display the game properly for me, so I'm thinking it's my TV. I know Dios Mios doesn't run on the Wii U, so that was my fault for not clarifying. I'm just confused how it's showing up at all despite being a 240p game.

Sorry, I should have been more clear; my Wii U properly scales 240p material to 1080p.

Oh, ninja'd ROFL. That would explain why you're able to see it, so let's say I ran Devolution on a regular Wii, would it scale the game to 480 and actually have it show up on my TV?

...because Dios Mios isn't Devolution?

I know they aren't. I use Dios Mios on the Wii, and the MMX collection doesn't display properly, leading me to conclude that my TV is at fault. I'm just trying to find out if Devolution would properly force-enable the game to run at 480 instead of 240. That's what I'm trying to find out.

Okay, let's forget about the Wii U for second and go to the Wii and running Devolution. Dios Mios does not display this game properly for some people, but Devolution seems to work. I'm just trying to figure out how.

Indeed it is your TV. Some HDTVs don't like a raw 240p (they'll handle 480i fine though). But obviously the Wii U is upscaling that 240p to, in this case, 1080p, so there's no risk of your mentioned 240p-compatibility issue in that case.

Okay, that answers my question. So, I simply use Devolution on my Wii (since I don't need to run it on my Wii U really), it would allow me to see the game properly. Thanks for understanding, even if I accidentally confused the hell outta you guys :P

Devolution on a Wii U via HDMI. On the Wii itself, unless the game supports progressive scan, you're most likely going to still get 240p.

Also, maybe you're not aware, but 240p isn't an actual legit video standard - it's basically a "corruption" of a 480i signal.

Will Devolution upscale the game to 480p?
