I have a new 3DS XL, I had to do some chores, so, I paused smash 4. Then, about 45 minutes later, I realized there was a faint pixelated outline of the character I was using. This did not go away. It is there now for good. Or at least I think so. I don't know what to do.

Nice necrobump right there. Dude, this thread is 3 years old. It's in the forum rules to not bump threads this old. Did you leave your screen open or did you close your 3DS?

smash 3d has outlines on all characters, if that's what you mean.

(pikachu here has a slight dark outline)
if this is your issue, you can disable it in the options menu.
if not, it probably is a problem with your screen. try rebooting maybe?

Ive left my 3DS on for 24 straight hours before and nothing has happened.
If it's burn-in that you're talking about, then you may have a defective unit with a screen that can have burn-in (like plasma), as LCD screens can't get burn-in.
You can test if it has an LCD by putting it on a scale, and putting a large object like a car or a house on the other end. If it outweighs the car or house, it's probably a plasma.
