Hacking Custom update 'v' NSUD files

Before IOS60 was a stub, i would use Wan's 4.0 updater
My question is what is the difference between the custom updaters like waninkokos and downloading system menu v418 with nsud ?

there isnt when its dl'ing the SM.
waninkoko's updater will trucha patch some IOS's though.
