If "slightly" altering an existing file allowed legal sharing, all ROMs and ISO will be altered by one single pixel or letter !
yeah, free games.
no, altering a paid or officially released content doesn't make it legal to share.

If you take a theme, or part of it from eShop or any game content/DLC, you can't share it (as in "you didn't create that content yourself").
other resources fall in fair use (using screenshot from your favorite movie, etc.)
i see thank you for getting back to me on the subject and clearing up my questions.

Thank you very much! How is it with the bottom screen, do I need to provide three pictures, like in the sample provided with the tool?

The canvas needs to be 1024 x 256, and each image inside of it needs to be 320 x 240.

The display region will then add up to be 960 x 240. Yes, I do believe you need 3 images.

not if your using a different base theme as some only need 1 image for the bottom screen.

I'm done with my simple Shizuru (from Rewrite) theme. I want to get a looping sound of Shizuru's theme (Carnation), but I don't have any good program to compress the file and cut it properly. I would be very pleased if someone could help me with that.

Here's a pic of my theme:

I will upload it later, probably when i get a music for this theme.

So just to be clear, we should take a sound, make it exactly 3,371,008 bytes, convert it to BRSTM and make it loop, and then convert the BRSTM to a BCSTM?

I tried doing that but the file came out a lot smaller than it started (938 KB) and it sounded all garbled.

Also is there any way to get a song down to a small enough size without making the quality REALLY low?

Send me your sound, i will make a loop for you if you want
I want to use the Lorule ("Dark World") theme from A Link Between Worlds for a theme based on Hilda. It's already in .bcstm format, but a newer version of .bcstm that Home Menu doesn't understand.

Unrelated: I like the Pikachu theme someone here made, except that Pikachu flashes as you scroll to the right. Any way that you could just make Pikachu a static image instead?

i used audacity you can ive done 2 min HQ loops as long as the output of the sound wav file your doing is less then 11-10MB once converted to BRSTM will be around 3.2mb

use a base theme that only uses one image for the bottom screen like for ex the gold star dlc theme
