I’ve got a couple of leds that are very bright. Electrical tape is good, but adhesive gets gooey. Can I use thermal paste on an led to “soften” the light? I tried elmers glue, but surprisingly enough, it didn’t do anything.

The led is on the circuit board and is covered by the housing. It’s not exposed. I just don’t know if the paste will damage the led.
I'm guessing you don't want to just snip it off? And i'm not sure, but it's probably not a good idea to goop conductive metal onto your circuit board. Personally, if I can't snip it, I'd probably use hot glue and some sort of thick plastic.
