I've ordered Windows 7 Ultimate for $10 from Microsoft and now I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade to it from XP once it arrives.
If I do, I'd want to up my RAM, as I currently only have 2 GBs.
My current RAM: Transcend 2G KIT DDR2 800 DIMMs (Two 1 GB sticks)
I have 4 slots, so I figured I'd get another two 1 GB sticks.
I was trying to find more of the same RAM at newegg (where I bought it before), but can only find this.
That is SD-RAM though. Is that different then my DIMM RAM? Can I use both together?
Second, I'll probably need a second hard drive if I want to keep all my files since I'll probably need to install Windows 7 on an empty drive.
My current HDD: Western Digital Caviar WD5000YS-01MPB1.
Looking through the list and they now seem to have Caviar Blue, Green, and Black. And some other series of RE2 and RE3.
Suggestions? I'm looking at the $60 range for a 500 GB.
Also, does OEM come with the cables I'll need?
Lastly, Windows 7 will do DirectX 11 right? But I'll need a video card capable of that.
Right now, I think my card MAY be able to do DirectX 10 if I recall.
My current video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT.
Do they even have cards out yet that can do DirectX 11?
I'll be sticking with Nvidia, has the 200 series dropped to a reasonable price yet?
Hopefully that all made sense. Thanks for any help.
