Using 3ds_simple_cia:

By the time i have copied the .3ds file to SD, i have created ncchinfo.bin and copied it to SD, way faster.
rest is kinda the same :P
Put it on sd and Run Decrypt9 and create xorpads on 3ds
remove sd and copy xorpads to pc and create cia with it
copy cia to sd and install

There's also the one I wrote. Lol. But that's on the second page by now. :(

This is why I didn't add this to my guide, it doesn't make much sense to do the decryption on an encrypted .3ds dump, only to just drag-and-drop in the end on the PC, when the decryption process is faster with xorpads on a PC. The only benefit I can see to this, is when we actually get a .3ds to .cia built right into Decrypt9, then it makes sense to decrypt the .3ds on the fly, and on the fly also convert it to a .cia. So I guess, it's there because we might get that one day? Maybe? :P

Edit: Another thing I don't get is why you didn't link directly to the release pages of makerom and 3dsconv. But I guess it's whatever.

*YAWN* This is like, the third thread for this I've seen this week... and none of them have a computerless solution to convert a .3ds to .cia format.

You can't convert .3ds -> .cia without a computer, because the conversion (which actually is not just a conversion and means building TMDs / Tickets) is far from trivial and actually needs a good tool (makerom), which isn't easy to port.

Ah, thank you for a clear answer on this. I appreciate it, and all your hard work. :)

Signed up to say thanks for this guide. Just wanted to add that you can do multiple titles at once in both part 1 and part 2. wasn't clear from the instructions, so might be worth mentioning if you revise the tutorial at some point.

Having a bit of a strange problem with the new .cia files - on an o3ds (sysnand 11/a9lh/luma) setup with phailect's guide I can install them no problem, but with a n3ds (emunand 11/gateway), the smaller cia file installs fine, but the larger one fails. I've tested with dev menu and with FBI (both as cia and 3ds). I get:

Failed to install CIA file.
Result code: 0xD8E08025
Level: Permanent (27)
Summary: Invalid argument (7)
Module: AM (27)
Desc: Invalid NCCH (37)

Am I doing something wrong/missing something obvious here?

Are you fully up to date using the Luma3DS Updater? And have you updated FBI to it's latest? Those should help, if you haven't.

I tried this but it when I was installing the CIA to my 3ds, it failed to install.
The error was, "invalid ncch (37)"???

Proving myself wrong (see above): just use Decrypt9WIP to generate CIAs. It was updated to be able to do so a while ago.

I very much dislike New Horizons that's for sure, I got it on release day, and I always disliked it, but I didn't expect that it would end up actually being universally bad and disliked.
