i'm looking for a way to convert .3ds files into .cia files. what i'd like is to do so using my pc only. i noticed a thread on how to do so but from what i gathered i would need A9LH (i have no idea what that is or how to use it, i just got luma running after using rx tools for a year.) really really knew to this whole process. can someone point me to a method that is light and simple?

You are in the tutorials section. This is a question, not a tutorial. To install a9lh, follow the guide at this link: https://3ds.guide

There is a sticky thread in this section at the very top in all caps saying that it is for posting tutorials only. Next time please read before posting. Stickies exist for a reason.

You have to install A9LH to get a CFW first.
That's the basic of all hacking.

Go to 3ds.guide, follow the steps and then take a look at the .3ds to .cia tutorial again, you'll probably understand it better.

You don't /have/ to install A9LH to get a CFW, there is always the outdated menuhax + boot manager set up

@crimson_moon if you'd like, you can join the discord in my signature. I'd be happy to go over your options with you, explain the pros and cons, and even help walk you through the a9lh installation if you decide you want to go that route. It would be much easier to do so in a real time chat like discord.

Would you REALLY suggest he go with menuhax tho? I should hope not....
You just said it so yourself man, it's outdated.
Don't try to confuse the noob more.

Yes, it IS outdated but it is still an option if a noob isn't comfortable with going through the guide and settling for something not as difficult in a sense, even though it is far from it.

It's not difficult. It takes 2 hours at most, has no risk and is pretty straightforward.
Well I mean, sure, rxTools is easier... But we have to let them know that the extra effort is worth it, for their own sake.

Agreed. Plus, with fast/safe/soundhax being a thing now, I honestly think a9lh is LESS complicated to set up than menuhax at this point.

Yeah, I remember that it used to be way harder. I avoided CFW because of that.
Back when 10.3 was exploitable I just used homebrew because things were rather confusing and the entire scene was a mess because no one could agree which CFW to use. Now, everything is just simple and straightforward. We've come a long way :)

At this point, rxtools isnt easier. Follow directions precisely and read thoroughly and there is 0 risk of brick with a9lh. Rxtools/cakes and emunand were great in their time, but their time is LONG over. Let them rest in peace.

We also didnt have plailect to write up an epic guide for us. I remember back in menuhax days, I must have read 100 different tutorials, all with different info. Made me wanna tear out my hair, lol.

True, true.

Guide itself:
  • Before beginning the guide, you must know the risks of 3DS hacking: EVERY time you modify your system, there is always the potential for an UNRECOVERABLE brick. They’re rare, but still a possibility so make sure you follow ALL directions EXACTLY.
:glare:

I forgot RxTools can decrypt .3ds files if you get the info file from easy 3ds converter.
