Hacking Configurable USB Loader

I recently made the mistake of upgrading to sys menu 4.2E. I thought I'd followed the guide correctly on the process to upgrade but now Rev44 of the USB Config Loader hangs at the splash screen regardless of how I launch it i.e. via LoadMii, Homebrew or a Forwarder channel.

The route I took was

Update the Homebrew Channel and DVDX to the most recent version
Installed System Menu 4.2 using the Nintendo System Update facility

Reinstalled BootMii2 and DVDX (again) using the HackMii 0.5 installer running the boot.elf via the LoadMii utility.
Attempted to reinstall preloader0.29 again using LoadMii but this seems to fail and just resets itself back to the LoadMii SD card selection screen.
Also, attempted to run the DopIOS utility but this just seems to hang also.

Anybody else had this or know how to resolve it?

Thanks

EDIT: Um, looks like I should've followed this guide: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901 as it seems I've only completed half the steps.

EDIT2: Phew. That guide sorts it although I have some issue with Preloader hanging launching the System Menu when using IOS60. I'd forgotten how sh1t the Wii was without Homebrew.

@Vanth88

been playing Dirt2 constintly since last post and i havent had any freezing or lag issues with CFG release 44, next ill try The Conduit.

use HDDScan it allows you to disable spindowns with almost any HDD and gives u some handy info on your HDD to.

p.s i recently started having issues with my WD My Passport 250GB even with sleep disabled(still span down whilst paused for over 20 mins and had to reset to get working again) and took a while to spinup. i use a WD My Book Essential 1TB and have about 270GB of games and havent had a problem yet.......touch wood

TeenTin: I'll probably reinstall cIOS rev 14 just in case. I wouldn't doubt it if hermes 222/223 is better considering its newer.
*EDIT* TeenTin: I never had issues even after leaving the Wii on for hours(I sometimes forget to turn the Wii off). but I've never did any extensive testing either. I also use my HD for games though and I'm not sure what you used. You could also be using a different model/make then mine.

andyselects: I'm not sure I can help you but from what I heard you shouldn't have installed the recent version update.

*EDIT* After further testing Lego Batman is now fine. I played the game with all cheats and I played on the 2 flying levels(both of the Joker stories) which were where the freezes happened(a few times, disabling the cheat Extra fixes it). Dirt 2 wasn't laggy either. For USB Loader I disabled the channel sound like oggzee suggested(well I disabled the game start page). Enabling it didn't effect Dirt 2. I also wasn't using Blue Sunset 3D and instead I was using CFG 3D and I was using coverflow3d.

This might have been caused by corrupted files or corrupted channels on my end. I believe the old USB Loader channel was corrupted because after using the updated channel the loader never froze again(read the above post for the issue). My Wad Manager channel is also corrupted because it will not boot. Wad Manager itself boots just fine from the HBC. I'll still test the games even further by using the game start page but for now USB Loader is working just fine and I apologize.

I'll keep you posted if the games freeze again while using the game start page.
*EDIT again...* >.> I just now noticed the clock in coverflow3d. I noticed it while the app is idle.

NMH played fine for me with default settings (from the original disc). Don't know what's going wrong for you.

I inserted Narolez's new USBLoaderCFG_NForwarder - Forwarder DOL into my pre-loader.

I know that if you do nothing it will load ISO 249, but I figured that the
ios=222-mload line I have in my config file would over ride that, but it isn't.

Is this normal, the config file is loaded after the dol does it's thing so shouldn't the ios=222-mload in the config file change what the pre-loader does?

Thanks;

Steve

Works fine if ripped from an original, so it must be a bad config setting or a bad download. Try forcing the language to your preferred language in the config, not just console default or force to console. That was the "magic fix" for MadWorld, although I don't know why.

My forwarder pass ios=249 when you don't press a button. It seems it is an issue of CFG. Oggzee must consider whether the argument was passed and disable the config option.

Thanks Narzolez, not pointing any fingers, just making an observation, but wouldn't it seem logical that the settings in the config file will kick into effect after the pre-loader has loaded the dol.

Thanks

The whole point in making the command line arguments the priority was so that a forwarder can override the settings early in the startup process. But I would not expect the default ios 249 to be always passed as an argument, as then the config file has got no influence on the ios selection anymore. As it will always be overriden by the forwarder. I think the forwarder should pass no options by default, but only pass an ios option if forced by a button press or something.

That seems like a good option.

So if nothing is chosen at start up, then it would use the config.txt

I would go back to a previous version of the forwarder, but I like the fact that is re-tries the USB drive if it is not found the first time.

when I installed the hybrid channel, I lost all of my settings, what do I do to keep them? thanks
Settings will be stored on either the SD card or a FAT partition on the USB drive. They are stored in a file called settings.cfg in your base directory. You can find your base directory by looking at the global options screen. The base directory will be one of these three locations:

A: sd:/usb-loader.
B: usb:/usb-loader.
C: The location of the boot.dol used for launching the loader (whether launching from HBC or forwarding).

The sequence to determine which depends on where config.txt is and is described in README-CFG.txt. To get your settings back, find the directory from the list above which has the settings.cfg file in it and copy that directory and all of its contents to the new base directory of the loader (which you can find on the global options page).

I had to copy over my settings in order for the Hybrid Channel to work, thank you for the help

I am trying to play the Scrabble Interactive game but I can't get it to display in NTSC-U version, the game only comes in a PAL version, so I can't get a NTSC-U version of the game, my Wii is NTSC-U with 3.2U firmware, I tried all different settings in the options page but to no avail, what do I have to do to make it display in NTSC-U version? thanks

Whatever you do, don't sue the GUI!

Seriously, no. I have never heard of that problem.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
