Is this something that can be implemented to see NTFS partitions on a USB drive?
Yes, I have seen that. It could be used to load config & covers from a ntfs partition, but not to start games from ntfs of course.

p.s. I'm away for a week so there won't be any new releases for a week or two.

Hey guys real nice tool, how do I add the usb pre loader to my hd(usb:/apps/usbloader_cfg/boot.dol) so my sis can use it without the sd card. Of course windows don’t recognise the WII partitition format, so how do I add it?

Also when I try to update/download covers it fails on initialising network and all my games work fine online.

If she has to use the sd card everytime, she will find a way to brick it lol. I installed the channel forwarder already, just need to add the usb loader to the hd.

You need a fat partition on your hard drive. There's a link in the first post for Dr. Clipper's tutorial on how to do that. And yes, you will need to reload all your games. It might be easier to just get another SD card just for her.

Yes, but only for adding/removing games and formatting partitions. Not for re-partitioning.

After updating from v38 cfg seems to take longer to recognize my hdd. Sometimes I have to reset or power down 4 or 5 times before it works without freezing. It only seems to work about 70% of the time. Is anyone else having this problem? Neogamma finds it right away so I'm thinking it may not be my hdd(120gb western digital). I'm using rev14 on a 4.1u wii.
Does going back to v38 fix this?
Are you perhaps using ios=222-mload or ios=223-mload in your config.txt?
Is your configuration on SD card or on USB drive?
I have everything, config, covers, themes etc on my sd card 8gb sandisk. My hdd is almost completely full so I havn't tried making a fat partition on it. I have 222 installed but it is not in config.txt. Going back to v38 does seem to help. I also have it set to go directly to coverflow. Where it freezes is on the "mounting usb drive please wait" screen before any background music plays. I've tried just waiting but after like 10 or 15 minuits I become a little impatient. On payday I plan to get a new usb drive. Who even knows how many times the kids have dropped my old one or spilled juice or some crap on it. I was hoping this was a software issue. I keep trying each new version as they come out. I guess we'll see.

Can you find out a specific version of the cfg loader where this started to happen?
The latest is 41, so which one is problematic, 39, 40, 41 or all?

I just tried 41-222 with the same results. I'm trying to narrow it down but I think I just need a new usb drive. I just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same issues. I'm going back down to 38. It's frustrating, every time I think I have it working, It freezes again. I still think this is the best usbloader so I'm not giving up. Still just a newb I guess.

I can without a doubt say that it won't be added within the next week.

38 didn't really work any better. I'm going to try moving covers and stuff to the usb and see if that helps. Thanks for the help. It's nice to not be treated like an asshole just for having a question.

Ok I repartitioned ok np.

Only issue I have is, no covers, when I try to look for covers or updates, it says initializing network and failed. Just went online with mario again and it works np, so what the hell is going on?

Edit: Just realised that most of what I said below is useless, as you already said you can't access updates either. So, the online stuff works off SD card, but not off the hard drive? That's pretty weird. Try going back to some previous versions manually and seeing if they work and when the problem started occurring. The previous versions are located at bottom of the first post of the thread (and continued in another post linked from there). All you need to do is replace the boot.dol file. Also try changing the way you start the loader (like use HBC instead of the forwarder).

Old post:
This seems to be a common problem lately. Can you use the online updates? If so, can you try out some other versions of the loader to see if any of them will download the covers? You could also try adding this to your config.txt in case there's a problem with the current default values:

Same rules apply to the forwarder. It looks for USBLoader at:

sd:/apps/USBLoader/boot.dol
sd:/USBLoader/boot.dol

And if none available, it'll load NeoGamma R7. If people actually like it, I'll get it together in a better package with the CFG readme's and such, as well as the NeoGamma readme's and an updated "thanks" list including everyone involved. After of course I get USB forwarding in there as well.

I have been testing it for a day now, and it works flawlessly. title id is simply "LOAD"

any update on the USB forwarding yet?

I’ve tried it with SD and HD, both hbc and forwarder, I will try older versions, but what’s interesting is. When I turn my router and internet off, and try running the update it hangs on initializing network until I press the home button. However when it’s on and the internet’s up, it says failed to internalize network pretty quickly.

Btw are you suppose to have background music in usb loader? Mines silent

Nope. Whenever Narolez gets around to it, and I'm in no rush

Put some .mp3s and/or .mods into sd:/usb-loader (or the apps/USBLoader directory if you don't have a config.txt in sd:/usb-loader). You can also specify any directory for your music with "music=directory-path" in your config.txt.

I have an idea. Replace 'Favorites' by 'Classes'[*] Each user may define own classes. These classes are numbered from 0..9.
.
[*] In the config file these classes are enabled and named with options like:
class_name_1 = Favorite
class_name_2 = Nice
class_name_3 = Kids
.
[*] Classes may be hidden by:
hide_class_1 = [0] | 1
class_name_9 ist det per default to the Name 'Hidden', but may be renamed.
If a game is member of at least one hidden class, it is a hidden game.
.
[*] Class #0 is always 'All games'. The Option 'class_name_0' is only for renaming it.
class_name_0 = [All Games]
.
[*] Pressing '2' cycles through the named classes. Unnamed classes are ignored. Empty classes are also ignored. Hidden classes are ignored if not in admin mode.
.
[*] In the game settings menu there is for each enabled class (but not class #0) one line like the favorite line:
name:
So each game can be member in multiple classes. Unnamed classes are hidden.
.
[*] In the top of the gui or console (or elsewhere if pos is set) the name of the current class is shown, if the following option is set:
show_class_gui = [0] | 1
show_class_console = [0] | 1
pos_class_gui = ???
.
[*] Migration of 'favorite':
Class #1 is named by default to 'Favorite'. All favorite games are member of class #1.
class_name_1 = Favorite
.
[*] Migration of 'hidden':
Class #9 is named by default to 'Hidden'. All hidden games are member of class #9.
class_name_9 = Hidden
hide_class_9 = 1Discuss it!

Interesting idea, but is it really needed? You definitely don't need multiple hide_class options. You have to edit the config.txt anyway to change those, so you might as well just maintain each of your hide game lists in separate config.txt files with different "hide_game" options and use the appropriate one each time.

I don't like the concept of having nine or ten different options in every game for this. oggzee also prefers to keep the option count down these days. Is it absolutely necessary to have multiple classes per game? The only use most people will have for this is for genre classifying, and that is mostly mutually exclusive enough to allow games to have a single class choice. Perhaps you may still want to allow games to be a favourite and something else, which may makes sense. So you would have one more option for each game where you could set its class number. Pushing 2 would cycle from all to favourites to each class that has members and then back to all as you suggest.

I'm sorry to be a bit negative about the feature, but it doesn't seem to be worth all the overhead of getting it going. End doesn't justify the means and all that. However, I can't argue if there are other people that really think they'd have a use for it. It really would be nice to minimise its impact, though.
