Homebrew complete noob with switch hacking. where do i start?

Before i start, yes, i know there are lots of discussions with where to begin and i have tried looking, but there are is a whole lot to take in. Id just like some advice on the steps i should take towards beginning to understand whats currently going on in the Switch hacking scene.

So anyways with that said, I haven't been staying up to date one bit with the Switch hacking scene. I have my switch on official FW 4.1.0. I just really don't know where to begin. I have some basic understanding from what I've read thus far, but would appreciate some help and maybe some links to some useful discussions/articles.

Example: Can i update, and if i do so update, do i HAVE to update in a way where i do not blow any fuses? or does that not quite matter for an end user like myself?

I'm not really interested in running pirated switch games, more interested in themes, home brew, emulators and the likes of that.

This is a great place to start with modding your switch. You don’t have to update, it is recommended not to. If you aren’t interested in piracy, then Atmosphere NX or ReiNX are the way to go for CFW.
