Funny how a jailbreak is pretty much the deciding factor for if I consider getting any device on iOS. I've had my current iPod for a good couple of years, and even though it's far from my favourite operating system, I would be intrigued to try out the system beyond iOS 5. I never went to 6 because there was no untethered jailbreak. Even on 5 though, it's somewhat laggy.

iOS 5.1.1 is considered to be the best version of iOS by some people, actually. :P (As for an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, there actually was one: evasi0n for iOS 6.0 through 6.1.2.)

I don't believe I mentioned this, but iH8sn0w and winocm have released an 6.1.3/6.1.5 untether package for older devices (any device with a screen and the A4, or the iPhone 3GS). The process involves getting a tethered jailbreak via redsn0w (point to the 6.0 IPSW) and installing the untether through Cydia. People with newer devices (A5 devices with a screen, and newer) can expect something on Christmas day!

Also, Cydia 1.1.9 was released, and contains many UI optimizations for iOS 7… Be sure to check that out!

I tend to take advantage of the 12 Days of Gifts each year although the app only works on iOS 7+ this time. Can't remember if anything would work via iTunes and not the app, but it looks like so far I'm not really missing much.

It looks like they're available for free for everyone— the app just notifies users, I suppose. (That doesn't have much to do with jailbreaking though… :P)

Anyways, the guide has been updated with screenshots and a walkthrough of evasi0n7 1.0.1. (The official release, that is!) Enjoy!

Glad it helped! :)

A Windows version of p0sixspwn (the 6.1.3-6.1.5 untethered jailbreak) was released not too long ago, but a couple of people have run into problems with it. Some success has been reported with using Compatibility Mode, so you could try using that. (Wait… I didn't even mention the Mac OS X version's release? :|) I'll update the guide to mention p0sixspwn, but it really doesn't need a tutorial; just hit the jailbreak button and wait for your device to reboot.

So, I got myself an new iPad mini about a month ago, and I'm ashamed to say it's still in it's box lol.

Is the new jailbreak recommendable? Or are there any issues with it?

You should be alright now. evasion's whole piracy fiasco is passed and it's been updated a number of times. In fact, the most recent update was to fix a recovery loop affecting iPad Mini with Retina Display users. evasion is stable, Cydia Substrate supports iOS 7, and the jailbreak has been out long enough for a lot of tweaks to have been updated.

You're good to go. But you should do a DFU restore to 7.0.4 before you jailbreak, even though you're probably already on it and your device is brand new.

Thanks a lot. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I knew there was an issue with iPad mini with retina (which is what I have), so I decided to wait and never knew what happened since then.

I'd assume I'm actually on 7.0.3, but yeah I know that I should avoid OTA

Much appreciated buddy. Thanks :)

iOS 6.1.6 and 7.0.6 was released yesterday to fix a flaw related to SSL validation. If you can, you are advised to update as soon as possible. (But if you plan to jailbreak, make sure you use iTunes, not OTA!) This goes against the typical "Don't update!" stance, but it's a pretty bad slip-up and the updates don't introduce patches for the existing jailbreaks.

evasi0n7 was just updated to support 7.0.6, and p0sixspwn should be updated soon enough.

(On a side note, I took a look at the guide, and it looks extremely messy… I'm thinking about ripping out some old stuff which looks very outdated, including but not limited to ultrasn0w and redsn0w 0.9.4, but I would like to hear your thoughts first.)

You should do whatever will benefit the community as a whole. Since this topic is meant to be served as a guide for jailbreak installation then the old outdated methods should be taken out to not confuse new users of jailbreak.

Just my opinion.

iOS 7.0 GM 7.1 is out! It fixes a lot of annoyances from iOS 7.0.x, as well as vulnerabilities that evasi0n7 exploited. If you want to keep a jailbreak, steer clear. If not… well, why are you still reading this?

I found IOS Soft Dev Pack & after some trouble, I was able to hacktivate. Can I jailbreak on top of the pack using evasion 7 or do I use tools in the pack? Hopefully, I can use evasion, the pack was really bothersome to use. Thanks.
