Hi! I want to properly and completely backup my 3DS in case it is lost or broken, and especially Mii Plaza which is not covered by Checkpoint. So I want to be able to restore it to another 3DS from the backed up files alone. Let’s assume I do the following:
  • copy all the content of the SD card,
  • backup sysNAND,
  • get movable.sed.
Is there anything else to backup?

Not that I think. But if you have a pc you should backup everything from the SD to a folder. You should name it "3DS backup" and if you have a problem, restore the nand, then put all the files from the pc backup to the 3ds SD (if you don't have a nand problem then don't restore it)

Hi, for the sd card insert it on a PC and copy all on the computer.
For the sysnand enter in godmode9 (press start while booting the 3ds) and press the home menu, choose script, choose gm9 megascripts, choose backup options, and choose sysnand backup, enter the combo keys and wait untill the end of the operation.
To backup movable.sed enter in godmode9, chose SYSNAND CTRNAND go in private, click with A on movable.sed and choose Copy to 0:/gm0/out, enter the combo keys and its done.
After doing that insert the sd card in the PC and go in gm9/out and copy all the files into your computer and now you have the backup.

SD card data is encrypted with a key unique to your 3DS, and one of the few ways you can really brick a 3DS is to restore a NAND backup created using a different 3DS. While it is possible to restore just the encryption key (movable.sed) from one 3DS to another 3DS, that usually isn't recommended and can cause problems.

Your best bet is to just back up your save data regularly with Checkpoint and copy that save data to another device. You can use FTPD or 3DSync to copy the save data wirelessly without having to remove your SD card. Everything else isn't unique and can just be re-installed from original sources one way or another.

Checkpoint can access NAND save data for titles like Mii Plaza, but you have to explicitly enable NAND saves in the configuration first. See https://github.com/BernardoGiordano/Checkpoint . There is unfortunately some lack of clarity regarding exactly what files you need to back up in order to fully restore Mii Plaza.

Oh, and about mii plaza i don't know how you can make a backup of that because it is installed on the NAND.
