I've taken both antidepressants and antipsychotics, but the best way to control depression is the thing we're told to do our whole lives but none of us want to listen (including me until recently) proper diet and exercise.

Thank you Tom Cruise.

I get it it's not a "cool" thing to say, but I really just wanted to kill myself and meds didn't help. It's the only thing that has helped so it's worth it.
I'm glad it helped you.
But.
Claiming one treatment is "best" and works for everyone is not cool, no.
Exercise does help (all other things being equal) but is not a cure-all. Some people react better to therapy, some people react to meds, saying any one of them is the "best" is irresponsible.

Exercise and diet have been proven way beyond any meds any therapy that's ever existed to cure depression. it is not debatable sorry you're wrong. Just say you have no interest in exercising like 90% of people, but don't try to argue the science.

Our bodies were not built to sit all day and they certainly weren't built to eat pizza hamburgers and french fries, and no therapy no pill will change that. This is why people get fat lazy depressed. I'm not judging anyone because I'm guilty of those things as well just trying to better myself.

Science has a very large disclaimer saying "in some cases, for some people" next to its findings, and doesn't make broad or absolute claims.

Bruh, no need for personal attacks based on huge (incorrect) assumptions. I thought we were having a civil conversation.

Been there before, little over a year ago. The professional who helped me advised that even when I stopped feeling depressed and anxious, it wasn’t necessarily that I’d ’beaten it forever’ and it might just be something I have to live alongside at times. That’s proven true as either can return without warning and just kind of hang around for a bit.
Never medicated but I was prepared to if things had got worse.

I'm already on Zoloft. Not bad really.

Definitely doing better than how i was two months ago (the worst i've ever been regarding that), but it's still there albeit very low. It comes and goes..
Never medicated, it's not at that stage yet *crosses fingers*
I found that talking therapies were all I needed (and a lot of willpower) but I know too many people aren't that simple in their needs.

I think I would kind of fight my depression internally too. Like, I would tell myself, 'I'm not suicidal and I don't want to kill myself, but I just wish somebody could take my place as a flawless doppelganger and I could fade away.' Not really any difference objectively speaking but it was my stupid way around it.

Thing is America is trying to standardize seeing a psychiatrist as like a general internal medicine visit. Understandable enough it's a field of specialized people that are better trained in specific areas. That's why we have different groups of "ists" to be a specialist. A general doctor would rather be checking your blood levels to make sure you aren't dying from cancer.

I believe more and more people do take psych meds but are afraid of being judged for it. I say screw that, if your partner or friend can't accept you need help and trying they aren't worth being in your zone. If a happy pill ever does come out that has 80% higher success rate than ssri/snri I can beat your happy ass you'd want it. That is until the government steps in and says it's giving some sort of abuse rate by the people it's prescribed to and they ban it.

stop using reddit for medical advice.
