So I'm looking to clean up the files on my 3DS' SD card to free up some space. I used Boop/FBI a few times recently to install CIA files, but sometimes it would say something like "install/transfer failed," however these ghost files would still take up space, even when I put the CIA on the SD card and installed it from there.

Does anyone know where these incomplete files go, or how to delete them? Is there a program that cleans up files on your 3DS SD card? I'd appreciate any info. Thanks!

Get a bigger card and take everything off format put back on

Formatting the card gets rid of the incomplete downloads to free up space on the card. The fact they need more space means they need a bigger sd card or they are going to run into these issues more.

OK so maybe I'm dumb but I don't understand what you mean.
How formatting the SD card could remove leftover/incomplete files while keeping other files?

In that case, yes it removes everything. Which is why you also want to backup everything that is there so that you do not lose anything.

For stuffs that is incomplete if it was lefted on the system, the user can look inside the Nintendo 3DS folder. There was a script for cleaning up the system after install CFW.

thanks a ton for your help, but I can't find anything... although I do own an Old 3DS XL, is it only on the NEW 3DS XL?
