To update a bit, they did it in the ps1 update, and i am sure you loved it then.
The CG movies in the PSX version, drawn up by Akira Toriyama, were definitely a treat.
However, let me tell you; the game (as I've already said) was down-right unplayable due to the frustrating amount of lag.
However, to be honest with you, the CG movies were also unnecessary. What was nice was how they extended the ending so as to fill in a few gaps ("The ____ of Guardia") as well as provide a subtle link to the sequel, Chrono Cross (Ok -- not subtle
).
If Chrono Trigger DS merely accomplishes these two things, it will have done the job of the CG movies.
The CG movies seemed unnecessary and forced, reiterated by the fact that after you watched them, you then had to re-watch them in-game as the original style dictated. This was especially strange during dramatic scenes, like a certain scene in the Dark Ages deep under water.
So no, although I thought the music was beautiful in the CGs, and although any new official Chrono Trigger-related media is exciting, I didn't feel like the movies added to the experience. I certainly did not play through the PSX game of Lag-tasticness just to see them either; I just popped the disc in my computer and extracted them
.
Anyways, at this point a slurry of users have already stated like-minded thoughts on the matter, so it would seem that perhaps those who are upset over a faithful rendition may be the minority.
