Hacking Cheat help for DSTT

hello, i'm very new to all this stuff. i have pokemon pearl, but i've been wanting to use cheats on it to get al the special stuff. i've downloaded the USRCHEAT.DAT file and have replaced the existing one in the TTMenu file. i've gone into the menu and selected the cheats i want to enable and all that jazz, have gone into the options tab and turned cheats on, but when i go into the game, the cheats won't work. none of the 'x999' stuff is in my bag, and when i go into the pokemart, the 'man in green' isn't there.

can someone help me with this please?? xx

where are you in pokemon pearl ? are you just in the beggining when you start a new game or have you already beaten the game ?
