The Switch 1 had its serial numbers in this format (from info I gathered, could always actually mean something else):
1st character - Console generation identifier (X, for NX).
2nd character - Hardware type identifier (A = Erista tablet, B = Left Joy-Con, C = Right Joy-Con, K = Mariko tablet, etc.)
3rd character - Region identifier, J (probably stands for Japan, but includes Europe and maybe Asia too), W (probably West, seems like it's for the Americas), or K (Korea?)
4th character - Assembly line identifier, the most common lines were 1, 4 and 7.
5th onwards - count of units produced beforehand by the same assembly line & region.

I've noticed changes in Switch 2's numbering system, though. The most obvious change is in the generation ID (X -> H), however there seem to also be new regions (E for Europe is new at least) and the digits from the 5th one are weird too (I don't think Nintendo produced 583 million Switch 2 units).

If anyone's seeing this, could you mind posting the first 4 digits of your unit's S/N and your region for documentation purposes regarding assembly lines and any possible new region identifiers?
