Hey, so two weeks ago I was given an o3DS with CFW installed. As far as I know, it was hacked following the 3DS Guide last year. Didn't give it much thought and just played some games. A couple of days ago, however, the SD card I was using started acting up, couldn't copy files to it. I tried backing up the information from the SD card, and managed to copy most of the stuff, except some folders in the Nintendo 3DS folder, which apparently contained corrupted files. So I copied everything I could to the new SD card, except the corrupted files, popped it in the 3DS, and now it boots straight to Godmode9. I'm not very well familiar with the 3DS hacking scene and just thought I'd be able to copy the stuff from one card to the other and call it a day. The corrupted SD card totally died after that, couldn't restore anything from the Nintendo 3DS folder using a couple of different methods.

I was also given a backup of the 3DS from earlier last year, which contains an EMUNAND and NAND backups. Read up on those, but I'm not sure if I need restore one of them. Any help would be appreciated!

download the 7z from https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v9.0

and place the boot.firm on your SD card, power on the 3DS while holding Select to make sure it loaded Luma 9.0 configuration

let me know what happened, then we can go from there

Hey, thanks for the reply! So I replaced the boot.firm file that was already on the SD card, but the 3DS still booted into Godmode9. I tried holding Select as I was pressing the power button, then tried pressing Select right after the power button and holding it. Still no dice. I'm attaching a screenshot of what the the root of the SD card looks like, if it is of any help.

ok perfect, time to upgrade your hack

https://3ds.hacks.guide/a9lh-to-b9s
make sure you follow this completely once that is complete

https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup
follow this one completely,

then you will have a your system fully hacked and setup again
Alright, so I'm currently downloading the latest firmware update. All the games are back that were there when I got it, but the all my saves and the new games I installed are lost. I mean, the saves are there, they're just back to how they were when I got the 3DS. Where are saves stored and which folders should I occasionally backup to avoid situations like this in the future?

some the games may not work or saves be corrupted, due to your "Nintendo 3DS" folder not being able to copy everything out of that
after you have done all the updates and everything else installed

use Checkpoint to backup all your save games, delete the games, then reinstall the games and restore the save games, just to make sure all the data is correct

Hm, I seem to have gotten stuck at the point where I need to install the Luma updater through FBI. FBI used to be in the same folder as the HB channel, but they're now both gone. Do I need to install FBI again? I downloaded the latest version of the HB channel and placed boot.3dsx in the root of the SD card, as per the guide, but I don't know how to boot it.

get the .3dsx file from https://github.com/Steveice10/FBI/releases/tag/2.5.0
and place that in the /3ds folder on your SD card

you are not following the guide correctly it tells you exactly what to do to load FBI
Oh sorry, didn't realise this was outlined in the "Finalizing" section of the guide, I was still on "A9LH to B9S" lol. Alright, I'll follow the instructions and get back to you. Thanks for the help so far!
