Hacking CFW upgrade question

As you may already know, my PSP is kinda...deadish. Problems with the Start and Home buttons, games won't load properly, etc. Suspected dodgy firmware. Right now I'm on 5.50 Prome-4 according to my system settings. I know, old school, right? I was told my best bet was 6.60 Pro C2 or something along those lines, but when I tried to run the update I was told it was 'incompatible' with my current FW.

Did I miss a step or something? How the hell do I get this thing to update?

you have to downgrade...

put the oficial firmware, upgrade to one you want and then custom firmware that version...

i don't wanna be that guy, but there is a GUIDE for that in this SAME forum. not hard to miss
