CFW 3DS not turning on without SD card inserted.

This means that boot9strap is looking for "boot.firm" (your custom firmware) on the SD card. It's recommended to copy it into your SysNand CTRNAND [1:] path in GodMode9 so that it doesn't prompt you to insert the SD card.

Ummmm. How do I do that?

This is how to copy Luma3DS onto your SysNAND. It will allow you to boot Luma3DS regardless if the SD card is inserted or not.
  • Install the latest version of GodMode9: https://3ds.hacks.guide/godmode9-usage.html#updating-godmode9
  • Boot into GodMode9 by holding START whilst powering on the system.
  • Navigate to your SD card in '[0:] SDCARD'.
  • Highlight over "boot.firm" using the D-PAD buttons, then press the (Y) button to copy the file.
  • Press (B) then goto your SysNAND by seleting '[1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND' using (A).
  • Press (Y) and select 'Copy path(s)' when it asks you what to do with the file, then press (A) to unlock the SysNAND.
  • Follow the button combination as shown on the bottom screen.
  • Press (A) to relock the SysNAND.
