I'd like to clarify some information regarding the Nintendo DS Lite. I recently ordered a random cartridge with a microSD slot on AliExpress—it cost about 2 euros. The cartridge itself has no identifying marks: no stickers, no markings, and a completely empty case.
I know there are so-called "official pirated" cartridges, such as R4, and each type requires its own firmware—versions 2020, 2021, and so on.
So, my question is: is there a universal firmware that works with these "random" cartridges, or do I need to select one specifically for the specific model?

Just in case, I've attached a photo of the cartridge itself, although it likely won't provide any useful information.

There's no microSD card included. And the cartridge itself hasn't arrived yet. I was just starting to worry there might be problems because the cartridge is, so to speak, "non-genuine." I've seen that some of these cartridges support a maximum of 4GB on a microSD card—and that's a bit concerning.

What you have is an Ace3DS+ clone (just without the label) which itself is a clone of the R4iLS. They are extremely common on aliexpress. https://nds.flashcarts.net/card/ace3ds-plus. They always have a red PCB on the back.

The link that @orangy57 provided you is the correct kernel.

It runs an unofficial fork of Wood R4 1.25 with some patches (known as AceWood 1.62). They work with any size MicroSD as long as its formatted to FAT32 and will work on all DS & 3DS consoles.

TWiLight Menu++ was never meant to be for flashcarts in the first place. You'll still run into the usual game compatibility issues, heck, it happened to me quite a few orso times and it's more preferred for softmodded systems like on the DS(i) or the 3DS personally speaking.

So, if I were to suggest a good kernel for this flashcart, then it would have to be either Pico-Launcher which was built from scratch and provides excellent compatibility, or the aforementioned unofficial fork of Wood R4 (called AceWood) that @Coderkei had mentioned above, and just for your consideration this is not officially endorsed by the original developer, Yellow Wood Goblin; I presume you have to give some form of documentation to approve the creation of a kernel designed for this flashcart, but I guess the Ace Team were very secretive not to give away on what they were doing, or couldn't even be bothered.
