Gaming cant play XVID on 360 while offline

Everytime i try to play my XVID files when the 360 is offline it says the media update is required. when im connected they play fine. I can even play them after i connect to live, i can then unplug the ethernet cord and it still plays as long as i dont turn the 360 off.

Do i need the update again and if where is it on marketplace?

I found the following instructions on another forum, I haven't tried it yet so I don't know if it works -


All you have to stream offline is to:

1. Delete the media update off of your console
-System Blade
-Memory option
-Choose where you stored the media update (probably your hard drive)
-System Items option
-Delete the "Optional Media Update" item

2. Create a new Silver Live account (must be able to connect to Live to do this)

3. Try to play a video

4. When prompted, download the media update

5. You should now have the media update tied to this console, so you can play videos while offline.

my 360 can't play divx/xvid as it's .. ahem.. banned

I heard you can upload the codecs onto your hard drive somehow, but this only works for the NTSC consoles, and I have a PAL-UK one.

Unless it's changed recently you can't upload the codecs yourself. divx/xvid update is tied to the console that downloaded it , same as arcade games. Banned 360 = no update for you. Unless ms decide to include it on a game disc or something. Xbmc > 360 anyway.
