Downgraded my sysnand (I'm banned already) to 11.0 so I can use HDD loading again for pre 12.0 games (2017- Nov2021)

Thats stupid that they didn't add hdd support in the cfw because "it promotes piracy". Cfw promotes piracy in general!
Even Wii U had HDD support.

As stated above, the answer to your question is technically yes if you have a firmware 11.0.0 or below Sysnand switch, and access to SX OS, which Team Xecuter is dead. The highest capacity micro SD card storage on the market is 1TB, you can go for that if you want.
It grew to 2 TB now for SD card and it is peak size that Switch could support.

Any updates on this matter?
There is still no update - Atmosphere isn't going to add HDD support because it does benefit the piracy.

Just get larger SD card as you can.

No. And will never do, Atmosphรจre's developers are strongly against the piracy and the only reason for HDD loading is piracy. And also with the large size SD card of today is unnecessary you can install several games on the console without external storage.

I do believe that Switch is capable to carry multiple SD cards but you would have to swap one to other one if game is in specific SD card?

Legitimate game backups? Or do the atmosphere devs consider backups piracy

For PC emulation yes. My external HDD was originally for SXOS, but now I use it for Ryujinx due to newer games.

Not true in the least. If Nintendo seen backups as piracy, they would take legal action instead of banning consoles.
Those are Nintendo's word, not mine.

I don't consider backup copies to be pirate but in Nintendo's eye, it is.

Console ban is easy task for Nintendo and they don't resort to legal action unless there is high profile cases.

Long time ago, Nintendo resorted to hardware revision to thwart the hacking like they did with Wii and not anymore after Switch came out - they just updated the bootrom and still expose Switch to modchip.
