I saw a 3DS XL for sale but the only problem is that the bottom screen looks like this:

I've had experience with fixing bottom screens of the normal 3DS console but that was because the bottom screen was smashed but for this one, I'm not sure if it's because of the screen (which would be ideal) or if it's a motherboard problem. Can anyone help?

That's most likely just a bad screen. Damage or corrosion to the connector can cause some issues similar to that (such as strange or washed out colors), but typically if it's the connector it affects the entire screen, not just one side.

If it's cheap, I would buy it anyway.
Besides, ribbon cables are pretty easy to fix in my experience.

Since the screen is still displaying I can only assume that a simple re seating of the flex cable will fix this issue it's very similar to how a PSP looks when the flex cable is not inserted all the way in or the tab is slightly lifted and needs pressure. Depending on how much it costs I would buy it.
