Hey, can anyone please make an amiibo hacking app seeing that we can hack new 3DS XL's and we could probably implement the add on amiibo reader!

Why couldn't be? We've gotten this far, maybe we could extract the file from it, edit it, and inject it onto the amiibo while it's on the reader

The question is, does the Homebrew launcher has access to the NFC reader?

It has access to the 3D mode

Having access to the 3d mode doesn't mean that it has access to the NFC reader
Also, I'm not really sure what you mean by "hacking" the amiibos
If you mean modifying the amiibo "save", it would be possible if the hbl had full system control
I don't believe that the current hbl is capable of doing that, but I might be wrong :P

That's exactly what I meant, you must be a mind reader! Maybe smea could implement that in hax 3.0?

    I don't see it happening
Mainly because it's very probable(I'm not 100% sure of this) that a kernelhax is needed in order to use the NFC reader, which leads to piracy, and smea has already stated his position about that :/

Yeah, that's true, maybe someone who can code amazingly could maybe create an app that detects the output of the reader and send that to a laptop or a shared network or the sd card. Only time will tell I guess, thanks for letting me know and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

Well ninjhax 2.0 can use any permissions another app can (including Smash, the amiibo viewer applet, etc), so you should actually be able to get access to read/write to amiibo data just fine.

Really? Can you use menuhax with it?

I believe that wouldn't be the case as homebrew has access to nearly any service that a regular userland app has access to, which they do (i.e. Smash Bros). I imagine gaining access would just require taking over a process that already has access to it. From what I can observe on 3dbrew, it seems there's not a lot of work being done on documenting/reversing nfc:u. Only a few functions have been lightly documented (see http://3dbrew.org/wiki/NFC_Services).

Oh, OK then, I thought you would need to have full control of the system in order to use that, but the way you explained definitively makes sense
Sorry for all the confusion I have caused :P

Yeah, a lot of people get confused about that bit of *hax. It's only a possibility due to the fact that *hax works off of launching another app and taking it over to use all of it's services. But since retail apps don't have a lot of higher services like am:u, it's still limited and you can't do things like install CIAs. Still gives you a decent amount of control though.

The NFC reader/writer requires kernel access to be used. You want to edit Amiibo data? You need kernel access. Even if we did get another kernel exploit, it would be a VERY long time before anything happens. Amiibos are HIGHLY encrypted and are different than other NFC chips, so we don't know as much about them. While it isn't impossible, it would be incredibly hard.
