So, my friend gave me his old 3DS. I decided to install a CFW using the guide, and everything went fine all the way till the end.

Only afterward did I notice that I have all his game installations and settings etc., so I figured I'll do a reformat (using the Nintendo setting "Format Console") and then re-install the CFW.

Following the guide now, it gives me a black screen when I boot safeHax (I have a game cartridge in the slot).

I have Luma 3.6 or whatever installed when I hold select as I power on, and I have a sysnand backup if that's what's needed to get the CFW back. Alternatively, if I could just skip ahead in the guide or something, I'd appreciate that. From my perspective I just used like 15 different applications, having no idea what any of them do, to get the CFW working.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Before running safehax, did you attempt to run fast/slowhax and have the files in the right locations and names?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Another thing, does it appear to load anything at all? (like, normal homebrew applications, red/green/orange/etc screen, anything like that?)

Yes, FastHax runs fine and says it installed the vulnerability.

What I think may cause the conflict, this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/5lv4hw/fix_for_black_screen_with_safefasthax/

Mentions A9LH conflicts with it, I'm curious if maybe I still have some files installed on the back-end causing a conflict?

I'd like to note I'm completely oblivious to what all these applications actually do on a system level. If it turns out safehax already did its work from the first time around or something.

If you've already installed A9LH with the guide, you don't need to go through the whole guide again. Formatting the 3DS doesn't remove A9LH, just the files on your SD card. Just place the Luma3DS files back on your SD card again and the 3DS should work as normal, with CFW.

The only things you should need to reinstall are the Homebrew Launcher Loader and Luma Updater.

Oh ok cool thanks a bunch, will try that now! I figured that might be the case.

To note, Hourglass9 no longer boots when I hold start on startup, but Luma boots when I hold select. I have no idea what Hourglass9's purpose is, but should I try to reinstall its functionality or just not worry about it?

(edit) Hourglass9 runs fine when I restore the SD card files (thankfully I didn't delete those) I think I was just freaking out over nothing, thanks for the help guys!

That's because the Hourglass9 file is missing from your SD card.

Hourglass9 is a tool used to restore NAND backups, and other things of that sort. You technically don't need it, but it's always good to have it in the case that you do need to restore your NAND. Of course, you could always just set it up again at a later time if you actually do end up needing it.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
