Hacking Can homebrew .dol files brick?

Hi,

I have decided to start making Wii homebrew recently moving on from DS Programming, and was wondering if it was possible for me to brick or semi-brick my system in any way through bad .dol files created??

Just dont wanna risk bricking my Wii when testing out my apps

No your ok with DOL files - its only when they are made into WAD channels and have bad banners that it can brick your Wii , but the new wadder program seems to have resolved a lot of that as well

as long as you arent installing anything using those .dol files you should be fine.

It will most likely just be me playing around with coding and stuff so I can get used to the way that it works for the Wii as I am still used to the DS and not sure of what sort of difference.

But I am sure I wont be installing anything through it or adding bricking code.

Would accessing the SD Card or USB have bricking potential, or only if I try to install something from it like a WAD?

Accessing just the SD card and USB shouldn't cause any bricking problems. Just that Wii doesn't seem to read NTFS format.

Installing a bad WAD, installing an update from a different region, messing with the system menu where the Console area setting is different from the System menu setting...

These are the ones that have the potential of bricking your wii.

I heard that cIOS might cause it too but I'm not sure as I've never touch it before.

So far the Wii portion of Devkitpro seems to be easier than the DS portion, but I guess I will find out in due time
