The official switch joycon are not only expensive, but also breaks easily; the pro controller is great, but too expensive and doesn't replace the joycon.
I wonder what switch controllers you guys usually like to use and if you could recommend some.
Preferably cost effective (not too expensive while being functional).

I personally prefer the official joy-cons and I doubt that you'll find some cheap alternatives that are of somewhat decent quality. As for them breaking, I assume you're talking a bout joysticks? Just order a few replacement ones from AliExpress. I've ordered around 20 of them just in case they ever break on me and so far I've replaced two. It's not really hard to replace them and the ones I've bought feel close to the original joysticks. No drift, no weird dead zones or "skips" even after 400 or so hours of gameplay (hard to tell as I use my pro controllers as well). You can also swap them for hall effect ones.

Indeed. The Pro controller definitely feels the best, but I love my Gulikit KK3 Pro controller. Sadly, it's not really cheap but it's pretty damn good. Other than that one, I also have DOYOKY Epoch (goes for $65 on their official wesbite) and it's somewhat decent, but KK3 Pro is much, much better in terms of features and build quality. Epoch, however, can be used in handheld mode (a bit bulky though) as well as work as two joy-cons, although a bit weird ones, depending on a game you're playing.

For "cheap" joy-cons, I'd probably go with DOYOKY Classic RGB Joycon Slim Edition ($47 on their official website). You can probably find a 10% or so discount code as well and pray that shipping fee isn't too high. it has hall effect joysticks, a turbo function (per joy-con) and motion controls, rumble feature is pretty basic, it can (sometimes) wake up the console. Sadly, it lacks the IR port and an amiibo feature.

The best alternative to the Switch Pro is the Wii U Pro which you can get pretty cheap about $30 used on Ebay. The battery life is 25-30 hours before charging. If you have hacked switch I believe you can use an app to connect via bluetooth, otherwise you would need a Mayflash Magic ns which is another $20 on Amazon.

I use them for ALL of my gaming except for PS5. I use them for PS4, PC and Switch. I find them very comfortable in my hand.

Indeed, it's called MissionControl. Note that you can't wake up the console with the Wii U Pro controller, though, if that's what you usually do.

You know what's weird I use Client-RS which let's me use it while connected to PC, and one day about a month ago i turned it on by accident with the home button, even though it was hooked up to PC and not even the Switch. But then when I tried to do it again it wouldn't work. Yet later after I would put it to sleep only shortly after I tried it it would work with the home button, but it was inconsistent. I tried to contact the creator of Client-RS through Github/Discord and let him know I got it working just not every time and if he could look at the code he said he might one day. Wish I could do it consistently.

I’m on the KK3 Pro bandwagon. It’s not just for NX. Any Android, iOS, or PC as well. It’s well worth the price. The mechanical analog sticks of the official Pro controller are simply no match for my gorilla grip. Metroid Dread destroys those damn things. Hall effect is where it’s at!
