I'm aware there are ways to self host the exploit, but this still requires a router and pc if im not mistaken. Is there anyway to run the exploit untethered though, even with a device so that there is no router/pc required just the system and a tv?

Yes.

Main use is Al-Azifs DNS method of launching the exploit. Thas caches it for offline use.

There are also some mini wifi boards i have ESP8266 based ones. These have about 4mb of memory enough to hold the exploit and act as a fake wifi router. Powered over USB.

do you have a link to the esp8266 and all that's needed to program it? thanks.

I used a cheap TP-Link usb wifi adapter (which I think was around $6 when I bought it in 2016) and Al-Azif's newest "ps4-exploit-host" (0.4.5): https://github.com/Al-Azif/ps4-exploit-host/releases

You can also use an ethernet cable if you have an extra network card, or if you're on a laptop that's connected to a wireless router (and has an ethernet port), to "share" the internet connection through it, with Al-Azif's DNS addresses in the PS4's connection setup.

Once you run the exploit, all you need to do is access the browser from the dashboard and it will load the last visited page (i.e. the one that applies the exploit). It's surprisingly convenient. As long as you don't manually delete the browser cache/cookies/website data.

So is there really any point in having an ESP8266 module anymore? Does it make things more convenient despite the cached exploit?

They're cheap but if I really don't need one I won't bother.

scroll down to the self-hosting section. There are some links to ESP board bins as well as wifi card self-hosting files.

You can even setup the offline cache so that you only need to have those for the first use, then you can unplug them and put them away until such a time as you need to refresh the browser cache (IE: new file versions and most likely after a FW update, etc.)

If you are using the online hosting site then offline cache is setup there. If you self host you need to make sure that the offline cache is configured in the self-hosting files. It is not "automatic". Cheers.

ps4-exploit-host 0.4.5 has "Offline_Cache": true, by default in settings.json.

The only point in ever using the ESP8266 module is if you couldn't configure your router to block PS4 access to the internet and you didn't have something on your network that could run a web server.

You still need to cache the page & you may want to update it again (for instance if resuming games in REST mode is fixed), so if it's really inconvenient for you to block PS4 and run a web server then I'd still get an ESP8266.
