Camera lens smaller than usual on a 3DS

I recently picked on a 3DS from a small game store with a broken hinge. When he showed it to me, I realized that the lens was smaller than usual and there was no gradient on the top panel. Does anyone know what is happening? Is it a replacement top panel or early unit? Thank you.

There are two red colours: Flaming Red and Metallic Red 3DS.

This one is the Metallic Red, only the Flaming Red have the gradient in the shell.
And the metallic red does appear to have a smaller camera lens for some reason, you can google it to confirm.
