Goodbye, Alan John,
Though I never knew you at all,
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you bawled.
They cried out from the woodwork
And they whimpered right to the staff,
They sent you to the exit
When they couldn't take a laugh.
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind,
Never knowing what to cling to
When the whines came in,
And I would have liked to have known you,
But this is better still,
Your candle burns out long before
Your legend ever will.
Trolling here was tough,
The toughest job you ever chose,
GBAtemp wanted a funny man
And paid you in hits and blows.
Even when you left,
Oh, the temp still hounded you.
All of us just had to ask,
"What about the comics, dude?"
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind,
Never knowing what to cling to
When the whines came in,
And I would have liked to have known you,
But this is better still,
Your candle burns out long before
Your legend ever will.
Goodbye, Alan John,
Though I never knew you at all,
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you bawled.
Goodbye, Alan John
From the young man in the 20-something post
Who sees you as something more than comical
And to you, sir, I give a toast.
