So I've been looking and a lot of the tablet only sales around are either damaged or have a parental pin, can I safely assume any cfw could be used and this would be bypassed? Mainly thinking about a offline only tablet that's running pure backups *ahem*

Very easily: https://mkey.salthax.org/

Have you been able to find many good deals? I mainly find the prices to be about the same as if I had bought one new in the store, factoring in the cost of buying a charging station, joycons, and cables. I like to buy broken things and fix them up, but it hasn't been easy to find a good deal.

Not it really, even damaged units seem to fetch a good price... Just hoping for that 1 deal

I hate that the parental controls are weak as shit... I just want to password my Switch so you can't use ANYTHING until the right password is put in. Right now if my Switch gets stolen, people can still play Mario Kart 8, because it's Rated E, and the parental controls only restrict from M through E10+.

I saw a Switch tablet only on ebay that didn't play carts

Was like 150 I think

LOOOL, so if your Switch get stolen you are worried someone will be able to play Super Mario:bow::rofl2:.
Point is, I don't want them playing ANY games on my Switch... Mario Kart is the only one I have that's rated E, not E10+ or above. The parental controls should give is total control over the games being playable or not, but it's a joke.

I never opened parental control, but can't you use the switch playing time per day to something like 0h? (at least I think I have seen somewhere on the internet about locking the console to "X" hours per day).

But anyway if someone has all the work to steal your console, they have the right to play MARIO, imagine if the robber has 0 knowledge and can't bypass the parental control, he will be sad not being able to play MARIO :toot: (Joking:D).

Don't tell me its another DEV Switch like some user posted on this forum, the seller also claimed to not play carts and was a dev unit:blink:.

I got mine for $200, I already had a second official dock though so that's why I didn't want to shell out for a full price unit. Then I bought some used joycons from Gamestop which gives me a unique look (green and blue). I think I've seen a few banned consoles for $150 which is why I recommended that since OP just wants an offline only tablet.

I bought one from ebay for about £150, I had spare JoyCons and I figured if it gets banned it's no big deal - Though I'm not actively trying to get it banned.

I'm happy with it, and it was a good investment, personally.

I just ended up buying a new switch from retail. I caved when I saw a neon one with 4.1.0 in Bestbuy lol GF kept saying I didnt need it. Shes right, but I WANT IT

And no, ebay had a lot of tablets only with 3.0 on them and they go for the price of a console. So I went with the best option I had

Yeah I'll keep my eye out for a banned unit for sure, but a locked system would be ideal as I've used homebrew on my main unit already.

I might just get a new unit if I really need to but in all honesty Nintendo online isn't appealing, especially when we can play emulators there is no urge to sub

I'll definitely keep looking there isn't much else I can do, it's just good to know parental controls can be bypassed that means I can actively look for a unit without worry.

It's parental controls, not theft prevention. Obviously if you are using it for something other than its intended purpose it might not do what you want it to.
Anyway, you are not hurting them by preventing them from playing games. They're just going to sell it on to some poor guy who doesn't know it's stolen and he's the one who will have to deal with the games not working.
Soon enough you'll be able to password protect the Switch on boot time with CFW though.
