You flatter me. In any case, I wouldn’t necessarily say that it “cools better”, it distributes heat differently due to a different distribution of fin stacks.
Most people make the (in my opinion) incorrect assumption that lower exhaust temperature = lower system temperature. That’s not how it works - the reason why exhaust air is hot is precisely because the heat was removed from the component and transferred into the air. In order to check if the component is cooler, you have to measure the component, with a thermocouple, not with thermal imaging. Moreover, you have to test the same board with the same fan, not two different systems, to control for other variables when testing a heatsink’s performance. GN did all of that, so their conclusion seems more accurate to me. The SOC runs hotter, other components run cooler, but the differences are minimal. For all we know they could be standard variability between different systems. Personally I think either is fine.

People associate cooler exhaust air with a cooler system, but that’s not correct - exhaust air must be hot if the board is supposed to be cool, the heat needs to go somewhere. GN used thermocouples on the back of the PCB in critical areas which gives a much better picture, but even that measurement isn’t perfect since they had to re-apply the liquid metal between board swaps, so it’s entirely possible they just did a better job than Sony did at the factory - they admit as much themselves.
same for me my pile of shame dates back to the ps1 days ....most of the time half into the game i lost my interesst or get distracted by other things then when i come back i always start a new game because ive lost track of the story and so it becomes a vicious circle

I no longer own any psx games, but I own a few ps2 games and one ps3 game. I might retire my cfw ps3, and put my superslim in its place, since I don't play the cfw ps3 at all. I have tales of graces f sealed, but I'm not sure if I should open it, if it's ever worth anything. I would buy digital, but there was an issue last time, and last time, the download and install was slow as shit from psn. haha. I kinda liked that game as that's the reason I bought it. the only other game I ever played on the ps3 was jak and daxter, where I platinum'd the first game. may not seem like much, but it is for someone who doesn't play new games ever. I bought the collection on the ps4 on my ps5. each game is a separate download apparently, which I guess is better than a game that's basically a forwarder. it should save time. jak and daxter 2 is hard as fuck but I like it. I've never played part 3 as I wanted to beat each fully first. I have my superslim, never been exploited, in the other room, so maybe I should hook it up, but that will be after dragon quest xi at least.

In all honesty the temps on both systems will be similar regardless of the heatsink used because Sony chose not to redline the fan. They’re using a dynamic fan profile leaning towards acoustics that changes depending on the game and with over-the-air updates - they bragged about it when they first announced the system. They’re more concerned about the noise floor of the console - the fan only goes as fast as it needs to before hitting a critical threshold, which is why the differences are within margin of error. A true test of just the bare hunk of metal vs bare hunk of metal would require using the same PCB and the same fan going full-blast, and that’s not a realistic scenario - the PS5 never does that. Both will hit a similar temp within a few degrees because Sony wants them to do that. I am yet to even hear my fan spinning loud once. same-ish here i have only 3 friends left most of them are in jail ,rehabs,looney bins or dead ...and those loses will stuck with you forever ....but the only real important thing is how we deal with such live events
