Hacking Buying a DS Lite

My friend is going to give me his DS Lite for really cheap!

I was wondering even if it is updated to the latest firmware is there a R4 card that will work?

Also I have a R4 3DS card somewhere -- would that work or do I have to buy another R4 card(if so which one)?

It doesn't have firmware updates and your R4 3DS will work.

Nice. Just wondering which DS Lite edition is it?

I've got the black DS Lite (mint condition) that I bought for £2 but now I don't even play on it at all, I do have some dodgy flashcart that takes forever to load the games but the flashcart was free of charge so can't really complain about that.

It doesn't have firmware updates and your R4 3DS will work.

So the DS lite is the best console to play DS games since any card can work but dsi and 3ds have updates which may block some cards?
