Sorry... tough I love cats

And yes, how your cat managed to open it?

Just an advice: keep it away from fire, water, kids, dogs and cats... just keep it away from hardazous situations

You can replace the screens. How did the cat open the system up?

I am not sure. I just walked into the room and found it attacking the DS. And the sound does not work either.

quite frankly, if you have to replace both screens and the speakers, the parts will probably cost more than a new DS.

in other words
its dead jim
The screens can be purchased for less than $27 (DX). The speakers can be had for $30 (powergamingparts.com). So far thats $57 (including shipping). Seems less than a new one to me. Granted, there is no guarantee that these parts will fix your DS. But the cost to attempt the repair would be less than buying a new one.

Replaced a broken hinge a few months back. The instructions (from net), screwdrivers, and new case were all reasonably priced. The dismantling and reassembling did take over a couple of hours - the hardest being rewinding the ribbon cable into the tube in the hinge. Most connectors come out and reinserts easily.

Note, one of the connectors could have come loose and reconnecting it may get both screen and sound working.

If you want to get rid of the scratches, then a screen replacement is needed. Get a screen protector for the future.
