Hacking Bushing *may* have found secruity flaw

I disagree mcj, yes some to flame, but they are also expressing thier opinion on a hot topic, the very thing that makes a forum a forum isnt it? Anyways, this site is more populatr than ever. Yes we have some problems; constant flames, immature admins (one in particualr, but he's a kid, cut him some slack), and the people that break the rules. MY point is, yes I have one, we are a community are a lot better than others, and gbatemp will always be a work in progress, constanly improving. And if you dont like the flaming in a topic, here's an idea, DON'T CLICK ON IT!!!!

I'm not going to flame you, or cut anyone slack because they are a kid. The last thread teq started in hopes of technical discussion turned into a flame war. And more often than not they are expressing their opinion about someone's post and not the topic at hand. I can deal with the wild speculation and the "can we overflow the dvd and inject 0s and 1s till it crashes then inject code through the SD", but people like F0ur2o need to be flat out banned.

Again, the mods are doing next to nothing. If they don't want to lock the thread fine but ban the trouble makers.

And just because this site is "more popular than ever" doesn't mean it's good.

GBATemp usually doesn't get this bad, and when it does it's a damn shame. It gives a bad image that this type of this happens, which luckly isn't often. This is why I stay out of the really technical convos.

It only gets this bad when word spreads that there is a chance for people to play games without a modchip, or something when the homebrew channel came out, or when VC were able to be installed. By Monday, it'll all be blown over. But it shouldn't even get this far.

And I stand by my comments about the lack of moderation. I've been online plenty of times when this was going on and mods were online and locking topics on other sections of the forums, but the flame wars persisted here. I know they can't be everywhere at once, but attention needs to be paid to these children that are ruining for everyone else.

Here's a novel idea! How about we WAIT!!! When July 25th comes, we'll see if there's a new post from Bushings that has the details or the actual patch/crack!

Untill July 25th, we won't know what his intentions are, unless he actually POSTS THEM!

So, for now, let's just SPECULATE about how it's done... maybe get someone who knows the internals of the Wii to test some theories...

I can't read that language, but I'm guessing you can... can you give a little more info about it? is it an IOS hack/patch?

Not yet, but we perfectly know that it's possible (but it's not trivial). It's not a theory, but a fact - in fact this is what I mentioned on the thread of Waninkoko's genplus (in other thread from EOL where waninkoko announced the modified genplus to read from DVD, marcan mentioned they also achieved that, but in a different way). We had been able to do exactly the same (functionally), but without the need for a chip. The thing is that we didn't want to turn it onto something that would end up on backup loading.

For the ones who say that what bushing had done is illegal on EEUU, I'll say that this exploit was practically completely discovered by european members from the team (while bushing was sleeping), so he has nothing to do (what happens is that bushing is good with this letter and public communications thing, so he's the one who has to do those things xD)

Ok, yea, I was reading the last few pages in BableFish translator... not the best one out there, lol, but manageable...

From what i read, they are just going over the drive expolit that nitrotux found... putting the drive in debug mode, then rewrite the firmware a bit...

I'm thinking that's the best way (if the only way) to softmod the Wii...
