I was considering a build with that exact CPU, I am still considering it but I might also just dump the cash and go for an i7.

How is it? 6 cores at 3.5Ghz can't be that bad... lol

For single-player gaming Piledriver-based FX can do the job just fine. For intensive multiplayer such as 64 players BF3 consider overclock the CPU. FX processors are very good at Linux and encryption by the way.

Only get an i7 if you plan on editing videos and using heavy CPU-intensive programs. A nice i5 is plenty for gamers, and will run cooler.

To be honest I moved from i5 to i7 for 10-bit x264 encoding. While there is definitely an improvement (20%), it is still a bit slow for my taste. I tried FX-8320 briefly, completely no good for 24/7 encoding.

I'm just going to wait until Haswell-E and Steamroller are released. If needed I may need to do dual Xeon-E5. If you are just doing gaming i5 is more than enough. Another benefit of i5 is that you can use Quick Sync for 8-bit H264 encoding (latest Handbrake beta now has QSV, and you do not need Virtu MVP to enable QSV).

Pretty good cable management skill there. Does that case have an opening at the top (allowing you to tuck 8-pin CPU cable behind)?
