Hacking Bricked R4i3D card?

Just bought a R4i3D card for my son. I inserted it right away and it showed a Spongbob game. Then I went to the website http://www.r4i3d.com/index.htm?l=en_US and couldnt understand the instructions, so for some reason followed what was under dsi(1.42) upgrade package heading. It prompted to update the firmware so I did. Well something happened now it doesnt even recognize the card at all. There is nothing inserted in the Game Card slot. I tried formatting the micro SD card with the Kingston formatter software. I then tried the latest kernel on the left column still nothing. Is there any hope left? Or am I out 40 bucks?

$40 dollars??? That card can be bought for 4 dollars. The card is dead because you used the wrong file (the r4i3d team has 3 versions of their flash card). What do you mean by "it prompted me to update?" The r4i3d team haven't released the firmware for the card with "2012" on the flash card's front sticker. BUT, if you have a DS Lite, another flash card, and the r4i3d flash card that says "new" then you could unbrick it with the 1.4.3 update file available for download on their site at the top left of the homepage.

format your msd card using the panasonic formatter, not a "kingston formatter".

• if you have a dsi then put the 1.4.3 upgrade software on the msd card. if you have a 3ds then use the 3ds upgrade software.
• then put the r4ids kernel on the msd card (which i don't see on their site)
• run the kernel, then navigate to the update .nds file and run it
• update the card
• reboot and make sure it works
• remove the update software

finally, see if your card is supported by the retrogamefan updates, because the kernel for that card is going to suck and have a really low compatibility.

there are a lot of choices when it comes to flash kits, and i'm sorry to say but you choose poorly. you would be much better off with a r4i gold 3ds from the .cn team or an acekard 2i. you could snag either one for under $15 and get a 99.9% compatibility.

you should try to return it for a refund and then buy an ak2i or an r4i gold 3ds from the .cn team.

please spend some time doing a bit of research before you throw your money away again.

DAMN. There's nothing you can do until Nintendo releases a v1.4.4 firmware and the r4i3d team release an updated firmware. BUT, even in that case, you would need a DS Lite and another working flash card to unbrick the card you have now. I have a link for cheap flash cards if you want it?

Yeah I bought it in an actual computer store, so go figure. And the only reason I went there was because my brother in law got his there and it worked great. Who knows if we actually got the same thing though. Damn I knew it was a lost cause.

Some cards needs microSD to be insterted into the console to show up in the menu.
If You're using DSi or 3DS you shoul try on DSL or return this broken card.

I have similar problem with my R4i3D New &Knuckles I got here, it worked nicely autobooting on a a DSlite but I wanted to make run on my 3DS
I've even made a post about this but since it just sank again, I asked a friend that gave me an "fwupdate2_for_3dsV7.0.nds" to try out
I did it, the updater told me to restart the console and then .. it don't even recognize the card anymore, there are any way to make it work again at least only for the DS lite?

I also have now with me a R4i3D 2014, this give a spongebob icon and them boot, I wanted to make it also run on 3DS too but not sure which updater to use and of couse I'm not trying without being sure again

I have one SD formatter here but haven't tried it yet, it was recommended for the 3DS emunand doing stuff...
but formatting it gonna make the card work again?

how to ? I tried here swapping the carts but when I start the update program it freeze at 0%

"Erasing device ......... 0%"

....nice it froze again ...
So I went look for another tuto or something, looked at screen and... it added a line with:

"Erasing device ......... 3%"

wow it's something , lets wait!
and it's passes like 10 ours and it's like

"Erasing device ......... 9%"

ok, it gonna take forever... but less than a new card arrive here I guess :v

I recommend you buy a new flashcart, you definitely need to upgrade lol.

I know, but these stuff aren't that cheap here yet for some reason, and used second hand is a bit dangerous .. I was too too lucky with this one and too unlucky when tried to update it :v I could just leave it on a DSlite I'm going to give back to a buddy .. now I'll have to get 2? lol I'd like to save this at leats for a DSlite ...
