Atari is revitalizing its classic 1976 game, Breakout, with a fresh installment titled "Breakout Beyond." This new version reimagines the original brick-breaking gameplay by introducing a side-scrolling, left-to-right dynamic, enhanced with vibrant neon visuals and various power-ups. Players can look forward to 72 levels and the option for two-player local co-op. Developed by Choice Provisions, known for the Bit.Trip series, "Breakout Beyond" is slated for release this March on multiple platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Atari's VCS console.

The game maintains the core mechanic of controlling a paddle to bounce a ball and break bricks, but shifts the perspective to a horizontal plane, offering a fresh challenge for both new and seasoned players. Power-ups such as bombs, force fields, and laser cannons add strategic depth to the gameplay. The visual presentation features a comet-like ball with a neon trail, creating a dynamic and colorful experience.

"Breakout Beyond" was initially announced for the Intellivision Amico console, a project that has faced indefinite delays. Atari subsequently acquired and completed the game's development, ensuring its release across a wide array of platforms. This modern reboot aims to honor the original game's legacy while introducing innovative elements to captivate contemporary audiences.

This is giving me Pac-Man Championship Edition vibes. I really got into Pac-Man Championship Edition for a solid minute, and I wouldn't mind doing the same for Breakout.

Those were fun to play.. Along with Chime and some of the Teris games, great pick up and play material!
