I am a huge fan of boxee. Its a media center player that was spawned from XBMC team. I just think it would be awesome to somehow get this to work on the wii. On boxee website they post the source code for the program. I doubt the wii can handle such a program. But who knows. Maybe a strip down version of it. Anyone know if this can be done?

Gambia, The
maybe it would be possible but it will never be done. simply because it doesn't make any sense. if it would xbmc would have been ported already. there was a big discussion about porting xbmc to the wii some time ago.

xbmc has been ported, at least partially, I believe by the xbmc team themselves. Still not particularly useful though. I personally don't get the need for multimedia players on the wii, I mean we all have so many other devices capable of playing films and music in our homes, I don't see the real need for it, as nice as it might be for some.

Who knows though, something may come along? Mplayer or whatever it's called has been making some progress I think, and is having a nice looking GUI implemented soon.

what makes boxee so cool is that it searches the web for different media sources for you. So i just type in a tv show or movie and it will find it if its available and stream it for me. This program can def cut down your cable tv bill. All the tv shows you want and movies could be found using boxee. Its great.

Sounds good, I enjoy the online on demand tv services, which are a similar kind of thing. Would be nice to have Boxee on wii, but it probably wouldn't run especially well. I mean the BBC iplayer is handled pretty well on wii, but the streaming is low quality (although not too bad by any means.)

I take it you are running boxee on your PC currently, then? Just makes me wonder what the need for it on your wii is, other than convenience? Honestly there would have to be a lot of people wanting the same convenience, most of them coders, for it to happen.

I think Boxee on the Wii is do-able. I got the Netflix Disc for Wii back in April and the Video Quality is as good as DVD gets. And recently another MultiMedia Player for Wii came out called WiiMC and it's got the Slickest GUI and plays almost anything. It has a lot of Online Streaming and Local Network Streaming options and Streaming Videos (Even DVD quality AVIs) works great over the Network. Why you couldn't do Boxee on the Wii just sounds dumb to me because the way I look at it I think "How could it not be done?".

It would be awesome on the Wii with the remote, but XBMC just did cut support on the original Xbox because of it not being able to handle HD content.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
