Hacking bootmii can't find bootmii nand backup

I've come to a point where my the screen stays black when I try to play a disk
so I would like to just load up my nand backup.
when I did this through bootmii it can't find it.
it tells me that it can't find bootmii and that continuing can be dangerous.
I don't see how this is possible, it should find bootmii since i'm currently using it.
(and yes I have a bootmii folder on my sd card with the files armboot.bin, bootmii.ini and ppcboot.elf in it.
but I can't seem to find a nand backup,
where would it be?
I know I made one.
Is it possible to download the nand from somewhere?

(if not, can I make a backup with my friends wii and use it? although I'd rather not resort to that)
 
Unfortunately you can't restore a Nand like that from another Wii. Bootmii also retrieves your console keys in a key.bin file which you would need and is unique.

You may be able to fix your Wii if you can still run the hbc, by explaining what exactly you did to get your Wii into this state.
 
thanks, well it was either when I installed cIOS38 rev14 or when I used anytitledeleter
although I'm quite certain I only deleted wads that I installed myself when I ran the anytitledeleter, although I suppose it's possible I made a mistake.
and yes, I can run HBC
 
So I assume from your request that you cannot load your System Menu, I don't see that you mentioned why you are trying to restore...If so, and you can run HBC, then you should be able to download the correct wad file for your region of the system menu version you were running, and install it with the WAD Installer 1.5.

The Key file and the Nand file should both be in the root of the SD Card (that you put aside in a safe place to protect in case of a situation like this).

The Nand file will be about 550MB in size, you can't miss it. As Edhel said you will need YOUR nand file and YOUR key file to perform the restore.

I can see the system menu.
but my sd card doesn't seem to have the nand backup even though I could have sworn I backed it up.

the problem is when I try to run a cd the, It reads the cd in the cd channel, but when I try to play it the screen goes black
 
So your problem is that you can no longer play backups or originals?

I've never been able to play backups.
I tried to make a backup of my super smash bros and was trying to see if I can get it to play.
although I'm not sure if I even created the iso or burnt it to the DVD-rw right.

here's what I did:
I tried to install comex dvdx but it gave me the message that I was a pirate (here's my explanation: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=196...;#entry2457033).
so I used anytitledeleter to delete the wads.
I only deleted the things that were under installed channels.
then I ran shared to clean.
I ran comex dvdx again but it was still telling me that I was a pirate.
I proceeded to install cIOS38 rev14
I also ran softcorp

and that's what happened.
please help. nothing i'm not trying to pirate I was just trying to make a backup cause my cd is pretty scratched up.
but If I can get my wii to work I'll just forget the whole concept.

So you can no longer play original Wii discs or WADs/Channels? Because the post you linked to was Titled "Downgrade Wii" but was about soft modding your Wii and playing Wads you had purchased on another Wii...

So tell us which cIOS you have installed?
Did you restore the Trucha Bug?
Did you downgrade IOS 15 during that, if so, did you restore it?

Here is a brief breakdown of how I mod every Wii:
1. Install HBC/BootMii using the Hackmii installer.
2. Do a NAND Backup.
3. Restore the Trucha Bug.
a. Downgrade 15
b. Patch 36
c. Restore 15
4. Install cIOS 249 r15
5. Install cIOS 222 v4 (38)
6. Install cIOS 223 (38 merged 37)
7. Install cIOS 202 (38 merged 60)
8. Use WAD Manager 1.5 to install forwarder channel for the USB Loader.
9. Then test the channel...

Thats about it in a nutshell.

How are you trying to install the WADs from your old Wii? I've never tried this, but I guess you would be able to use WAD Manager 1.5 to install them on your new Wii, once you have soft modded it.

Let us know what you did...

wii disks just come to a black screen when I try to play them.
I'm not sure about wads because I uninstalled all of them
 
Although you don't mention it in this thread your other thread mentions you have preloader. I believe this is what is causing your black screen for retail discs. BTW as you only have bootmii as IOS and not boot2 - restore of a nand backup is not such a good idea.

I disabled all the hacks and disks started working.
never even considered that to be a possibility.

btw, whats wrong with preloader?
it seems logical to me.
If I can't install bootmii as a boot2, the preloader will be the only way for me to access bootmii incase of a brick.

anyway, I really do feel stupid now.

now that I know what the problem was, do you guys have any suggestions on how to get my backup to play?
more specifically, how to install comex dvdx
 
You were trying to do a backup of SSBB on a DVD-RW I believe. No way on Earth that will happen as its DL! Firstly you need to back up only to DVD -R or +R.
That aside the best way to get backups to work is to read xzxero's sticky on modifying your wii in the Hacking section making note of what firmware you have right now.

since I had originally followed that guide to softmod my wii, I suppose it's done and I really don't have to/shouldn't try to mess around with it anymore.
just needed to install softchip and need to get some dvds that aren't -rw

RW should play fine on the Wii for most games. You may just have to set the booktype to 'DVD-ROM' in your burning software. You need a DVD that is DL (dual layered) if you're backing up SSMB which is dvd9.
 
so it varies from game to game?
I don't think my disks are dual layered.
is there anywhere I can look for reference on the requirements for each disk?
I'm gonna try to copy my pbr now and see if that works.

update:
here's where I'm at so far with this.
my dvd-rw disks don't seem to work.
it's no matter, I'll get some other dvds
somebody recommended the brand verbatim, but should I get -R or +R
also: I can't seem to change the booktype on imgburn (this is because this feature only works on supported burners)

here is how I've been trying to run the disks:
the disks cannot be read on the disk channel (duh)
I've tried backup launcher and got the following error:
Code: 
DVD Read Error (324)
and I've tried softchip and got the following error:
Code: 
Exception: loctl error (DL_Read ID)

also: I think the problem may be that my wii is to new to run backups.
the first 4 characters on my serial number are LU72
so maybe my wii has a newer dvd drive and all of my attempts are futile
 
Its true newer dvd drives cant read backups. However you should really try a couple of DVD -R's (you dont need to worry about booktype with -R's) and burn using imgburn at say a speed of x4.
However before that it would appear you have no cIOS as that what dvd read error (324) can mean. You should re-install it. You could also try installing a backup loader than can play backup discs such as Neogamma or USB Loader GX
