Hello, good morning/afternoon/evening, depending on where (when?) you are!
Just introducing myself, have been a long time lurker but joined now since I'm thinking of buying a Nintendo Switch in the near future (have had a few DS, including a beautiful Fates 3DS (I'm a bit of a Fire Emblem fanboy, since I first played Sacred Stones when I was a kid )).
On that note, if anyone Nintendo-savy stumbles into this post, would you recommend a Wii U over a Switch? I think the switch has more value, and isn't that much more expensive, but I would be happy to hear more experience opinions xD (and I can only afford one atm, unfortunately)

Wii U... well, a Wii U it's worth it for it's exclusives such as Super Smash Bros for Wii U
Besides that, you can hack your Wii U and use the Virtual Wii to inject Wiiware, and all the Wii Homebrew goodies such as USB Loader to play Wii games and NIntendont to play Gamecube games.

On the other hand... I think a Switch would be awesome JUST to use Retroarch.

Wii U is cool because, of ability to play Wii + NGC Games ( you need hack ... ). But New Games on Switch are also cool c.c

Your choice depends on what you want.
If you don't look after Switch exclusives and novelties, i would strongly recommend to get a WiiU : way cheaper, easy to hack (both WiiU and vWii), tons and tons of games (WiiU, Wii and GameCube in a somehow retro-compatibility ; excluding emulation).

EDIT : and depending on what kind of TV you want, it's not only HDMI.

Wii U are pretty expensive in france, 32Gb are usualy between 90 - 150 euros ..

I feel welcome already , thanks everyone for your insights! I'll continue to lurk mostly ebay for a good deal on either, though with the Switch prices as they are, I'm looking more at Wii Us. And again, thank you everyone!!
