Hacking Blocking 3DS updates via firewall

very interesting. what a dumb oversight with the wii ;-) still, this gives us the possibility of a modchip based on neimod's hardware, to:

a) get unsigned packages from eshop, directly from memory, before they are encrypted ("ripping")
and then later (on another 3ds, also "chipped")
b) inject them into ram, overwriting another (random) package about to be signed (say, a free demo you are downloading)
of course, this would only be interesting for pirating, not homebrew.
If only it was that easy... There's one problem - to do that, you need to figure out the signing algorithm, and if it contains a random number then even with the key - good luck. The result of signing will be different each and every time.

The PS3 had a similar issue, except Sony made an interesting oversight. Y'see, it's the famous...

rand() == 4

Don't ask me how it happened - they corrected it later. Technically, the algorithm had a "random number", except the random number was always 4. :P

//Oh boy, I promised to be good and look at me... ^^; Right, I really gotta stop - this thread is derailed as it is. :P

I'm not really worried about cart updates, I just want to run the updates when _I_ am ready.. ie: when my flash card is ready to be updated.

(I don't have a dsi to run the patch from so I had to talk a second hand store into letting me borrow a ds for a few mins so I could run the patch, they won't fall for it a second time)

I added oss-auth.shop.wii.com to domain block on router but 3DS still came up with system update, have just deleted internet connection for now

any tips? have r4 gold so that will still work but may as well hold out for softmod
