I know that black Wiis are unable to PLAY back-up discs.. but is it possible for USB Loaders to still install from them? I kind of assume not because I feel like the inability for them to play them comes from not being able to read them.. Just wondering if people had any experience with this.

Yep, Black Wii's are just same as the newer white Wii's.

Must use a USB loader.

They will rip disks just fine

Edit: Retail Disks that is =)

Are you sure? I have a white one I picked up around a year ago now (newer drive), and inserting a burned DVD causes the drive to spin down instantly. No spinning disc = no ability to read it to the HDD via a USB loader or any other means.

EDIT: hahaha, CSI I think I hit submit the same second you hit edit LOL

I don't think so, but you can just install games from the PC.

Read my Edit.

It will read retail (or hired for the video shop) Games =)

The new drives will NOT read DVD-R's (read - backup disks)

Edit: Sorry, little too much wine, didnt see your edit =)

to rip a backup disk, you will have to use if on windows the program called imgburn
if on linux, use the command
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/path/to/where/to/rip
if on mac, you can use dd, but I forget what it refers the cd drive as :/

i thought it was rawdump

If you need to dump retail games just get superdump. its deadlyfoez (he got renamed) app, edited and it just takes maximally half an hour.

I am new to this site and just so I understand correctly because I have a black wii and going to softmodd it. In order to play games I either need to download them from someone to a usb hard drive or get a copy of the game and rip it to a hard drive?

Yes, you need to download them then copy them to usb hard drive, or borrow it and use superdump to get it to HDD.

nope, rawdump is for a retail disk. backup disks can be read by normal programs and normal dvd drives with normal firmware. thats why imgburn, and dd can access them.

DeadlyFoez can’t program worth beans. Superdump was made by tueidj, also known for RawkSD and Riivolution. Tueidj often calls DeadlyFoez out for being an idiot, and they’ve had more than a few squabbles.

Isn't it suspicious that some guy with the same avatar as Deadlyfoez pops up when he is on a deleting frenzy? or am i just being f-ing weird.
I've not got a clue what you are talking about, lad.

Superdump was nothing to do with deadlyfoez, and I pointed this out. End of, innit?
