Gaming Best value graphics card?

I'm thinking of updating my graphics card in my PC since on board graphics = fail.
However I have no idea which graphics card to get.
I'm looking for something that can run new games well, but isn't too expensive.
Any suggestions?

ATI 4850 512mb is cheap now and can run most games on high settings at a decent resolution.

I second the HD5770 as it's fairly cheap and runs DirectX 11, and it doesn't need much power. If that's too expensive either the HD4870 or HD4850, in that order.
