Gaming Best Racing Game?

I really want a racing game for my DS. Any suggestions?
Free roam is preferred, if the game doesn't have it, give me some really good reasons to still get it anyways.

there is no free roaming racing game I think probably trackmania is your best shot for you, you can make your own tracks with loops and stuff

Might I add, I want a real car racing game. That rules out games like Mario Kart and Pokemon Dash.

Mario Kart is the best. GRID and Trackmania are also good. Need For Speed ProStreet and Speed Racer were decent too but horribly underrated.

Trackmania is epic, but it's not really a make-your-car game.

Need for speed is that sort of game.

Yeah, I'm more of a make-your-car game kind of guy, not make-your-track. So the more car customization, the better.

Then Need for Speed is your game. I would like to point out (while it doesn't fit your criteria) speed racer is actually a surprisingly fun racing game..

um i tried all the NFS Series: and the only one who good enuff to play was Need For Speed:Carbon Own The City the Control of car was the best of all Nfs Series but it still sucks xD Try It ;]

Because I'm lazy like that.

I'll take a look at NFS Carbon. I tried Underground 2 earlier this year and the controls weren't tight enough. Tight controls are definitely a plus for me. GRID's controls, however, were TOO tight. You couldn't even drift.
